Whether you’re into cricket, football, or golf, hopes for female athletes have been revived in numerous competitions. The schedule of athletic events for 2023 reflects the fact that change is underway. This year, a number of major international sporting events will either be exclusively for women or will include women athletes competing to the best of their ability.
2022 was a nice year. However, we already know that the year 2023 will be even more favourable for women’s sports. The top 10 women’s sports events are listed below.
1. FIFA Women’s World Cup
The FIFA Women’s World Cup will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20, 2023. The FIFA Women’s World Cup, which began in 1991 with 12 female football teams, will feature 32 nations this year. Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China People’s Republic, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Italy, Jamaica, Korea, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Philippines, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, USA, Vietnam, and Zambia are among the participating countries.
2. ICC Women’s T20 World Cup
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was initially slated to take place in South Africa between the end of 2022 and February 10–26, 2023. Due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to move the event to 2023. Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, Bangladesh, and Ireland are among the countries that have qualified for this international cricket competition.
3. Women’s IPL
The BCCI’s rumour mills indicate that the women’s Indian Premier League’s maiden season would likely take place in the first week of March and will feature five clubs, even if the specifics have not yet been worked out or publicised. The five teams scheduled to compete have recently attracted the interest of five Indian Premier League franchises: the Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings.
4. Asian Games
The new dates for the Asian Games in 2023 are September 30 through October 8. The Asian Games are being held in China for the third time, and this will be their 19th iteration. The Asian Games always provide male and female athletes with several possibilities to excel and bring honour to their country in sports including athletics, wrestling, boxing, hockey, and kabaddi.
5. Football: Women’s Finalissima: England vs Brazil
The 2022 Copa América Femenina champions, Brazil, will play the reigning UEFA Women’s EURO champions, England, following an exciting summer. On Thursday, April 6, Wembley Stadium will host the inaugural Women’s Finalissima. Intriguingly, the upcoming match will be the senior England Lionesses’ third encounter with their Finalissima rivals.
6. Rugby: TikTok Women’s Six Nations 2023
There are numerous stadiums in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, and Italy. England will be striving for a fifth straight victory and another Grand Slam when the TikTok Women’s Six Nations Championship returns in 2023. The five-round women’s sporting competitions begin on Saturday, March 25.
7. Cricket: The Women’s Ashes 2023
Stadiums spread all around England. The English women’s cricket team will be attempting to wrest the Women’s Ashes from Australia this summer for the first time since 2014. This however is no simple task. The Women’s Ashes, which this year features three forms, gets underway on June 22.
8. The AIG Women’s Open
The annual AIG Women’s Open will take place in Walton Heath, Surrey, between Thursday, August 10, and Sunday, August 13, for the first time in its 47-year history. Ashleigh Buhai will defend her AIG Women’s Open championship in the 2023 major women’s golf event. With a score of 274, the South African golfer defeated Chun ln-Gee of South Korea in a playoff to claim the title at Muirfield in 2022.
9. Tour de France Femmes 2023
Clermont-Ferrand is where it begins, and Pau is where it ends. On Friday, July 23, the second Tour de France Femmes will begin. Annemiek van Vleuten, a Dutch cyclist, is rumoured to be planning a title defence.
10. Netball World Cup 2023
South Africa will host the first-ever Netball World Cup and Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023, making it a significant year for the nation. New Zealand will compete against 15 other countries in the 16th edition of the quadrennial netball championship from July 28 to August 6. Australia, England, Uganda, and Trinidad & Tobago are a few of these.
