TCS has become the top employer for women in India by employing 2.10 lakh women employees
Tata Consultancy Services has emerged as the largest employer of women in India with 2.10 lakh women employees. 35% of TCS’ workforce is made up of female employees. This is in accordance with the most recent report about women at work in India, the “second edition of the list” of the 2022 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500. Tata Consultancy Services leads the list of companies with the highest percentage of women employees, followed by Infosys, Wipro, HCL Technologies, and 62,560 (18%). These companies employ 124 lakh (40%), 88,946 (36%), 62,780 (28%), and 62,560 (18%) women employees respectively.

Apollo Hospitals Enterprise leads the list of businesses with the highest proportion of female directors on the board with six, followed by Godrej Consumer Products, Piramal Enterprises, and India Cements with five apiece.

Although the company did not disclose the entire number of female professionals it intended to hire in 2021–2022 (FY22), its 2020–2021 (FY21) annual report indicates that women make up 36.5% of its employment base. The company has stated that it would be hiring approximately 40,000 students for FY22. Although the company would not provide specific figures, insider sources said that 40–50% of the new workers were female. According to research, relocation, marriage, and other family-related events are the main causes of attrition among women employees. The program took into account all female candidates who had at least two years of continuous IT experience but had taken breaks for personal or familial reasons.
The project, which was first introduced on May 25 of last year as a pilot for enterprise applications and banking and financial services was later extended to additional departments. In FY21, there were 36.5% more women overall in the workforce than there were in FY20. Over the past five years, there has been a noticeable improvement in women’s participation at all levels.
The corporation claimed in its annual report that it had been successful in keeping on board women at work who had recently returned from maternity leave. A total of 16,907 employees used parental leave, according to the company’s FY21 annual report.
16,791 of these were women and 116 men. 127 males and 18,640 women out of the 18,767 workers whose parental leave expired during the year were affected. Of these, 91 males and 16,176 women returned to their jobs, resulting in retention rates of 72% and 87%, respectively.
Companies are searching across all market segments to find the best candidates as the competition for talent heats up. Many major players, like Infosys, Wipro, and HCL Technologies, have announced that they will be hiring more women. Infosys indicated that it wants women to make up 45% of its workforce.
