Everyone is aware of sports in India. Our favourite sports, cricket, badminton, football, and tennis, are primarily played and watched in India. But how well do we actually know the athletes, particularly the Indian sportswomen? Not all of us are familiar with the important events and well-known women in sports that have helped our nation gain respect and reputation. Particularly in India, female sports personalities are not widely known or given much attention. But don’t worry, here are the top 10 Indian sports stars you need to know.
1. Mary Kom
Mary Kom, an Indian Olympian fighter, is well-known in the sport of boxing for a number of accomplishments. Given her achievements and athletic talent, she has gained notice on a global scale. The only female boxer who has won a medal in each of the seven world boxing championships is Mary Kom, an athlete from India. Additionally, she recently joined the Rajya Sabha.
2. Mithali Raj

Sania has dominated tennis in India for the past ten years and continues to win our hearts with her performances. She is also one of the most attractive athletes in the country. She is a professional tennis player from India and was formerly ranked first in the world. She holds the record for having won six grand slam tournaments in India. In addition, she is ranked as India’s top tennis player in both the singles and doubles divisions by the WTA.
5. Saina Nehwal
After her popularity and accomplishments in the sport of badminton, the name gained notoriety. She was the former world number one and a professional badminton player. Over 24 badminton trophies, including eleven super series wins, have been won by this Indian woman. Additionally, this athlete took home a bronze medal from the 2012 London Olympics.

10. Rani Rampal
Rani Rampal is another name on the list of Indian sportswomen we haven’t even heard of. Around the 2010 World Cup, she was the youngest member of the Indian national field hockey squad and also an Indian. When she first took part, she was 15 years old, and she still does well in her sport.
