Empowering Women in 2025: New Government Schemes and Initiatives
The Indian government has introduced several progressive schemes in 2025 aimed at empowering women across various sectors, from financial independence to technology and land ownership. These initiatives focus on economic support, modern agricultural training, self-reliance, and legal property rights.
Programs like Subhadra Yojana, Namo Drone Didi, and Lakhpati Didi are creating new opportunities for women, ensuring financial stability, skill development, and greater participation in different fields. Subhadra Yojana
Launched on 17th September, 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in Odisha, Subhadra Yojana is a welfare scheme targeting women aged 21 to 60 from the economically weaker section.
The program will provide direct financial assistance of ₹50,000 over five years in two annual installments of ₹5,000 to every eligible woman one installment during Raksha Bandhan and another on International Women’s Day. In a short period, more than 25 lakh women have been benefited through this initiative.
Namo Drone Didi Scheme
Namo Drone Didi Scheme has been started from November 2023. This provides training among women regarding the working of drones mainly in agricultural sectors. ₹1,261 crores have been sanctioned for providing drones to 15,000 women self-help groups and it is being done with the Krishi Vigyan Kendras spread all over the country.
This is for participation of women in modern agricultural activities and technology.
Lakhpati Didi Scheme to be scaled up
Budget 2025 stated that the benefit of ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme would cover 3 crores women instead of initial 2 crores. The Programme ensures that the self-help group women earns sustainable annual income of Rs 1 lakh.
The 83 lakh self-help groups that have covered 9 crores women are gradually transforming the rural socio-economic scenario with empowerment and self-reliance.
Svamitva Yojana
Till now, on 18th January, 2025, Prime Minister Modi, under the scheme Svamitva Yojana, issued over 65 lakh property cards among the people living in 10 states and 2 union territories. The scheme which was introduced in April 2020 aims at authenticating land records of the rural property holders in order to decrease the number of disputes and improve the liquidity for finance.
Through this program, the rural women are also getting empowered as the ownership of properties has been legalized for them.
